Vinegar – Natures Secret Weapon

 Vinegar – Natures Secret Weapon

Vinegar is a liquid consisting of about 5–20% acetic acid (CH3COOH), water, and other trace chemicals, which may include flavorings. The acetic acid is produced by the fermentation of ethanol by acetic acid bacteria.  Sounds all too icky and scary to consider one of natures great weapons hey, but see below just a couple of ways I use vinegar and you should too.. It’s natural, cheap, clever and better for the environment to use than chemicals.  Interesting fact:  Vinegar was first mentioned for its preservation and healing powers around 7000 years ago in Babylon.

Apart from Salad Dressings and Pickling, Vinegar is great for:
HAIR:  Use as your final rinse for soft and shiny hair – said to also be good for Alopecia; (I use a cup of white vinegar);
SKIN:  Anti-inflamatory and Ant-Bacterial so this is a great tonic in the bath for me and my Eczema (I add a touch of lavender oil too).
WAKING UP MY METABOLISM:  Teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar in cup hot water.
Facial Toner – No Fuss, No Expense and it works!
Mix together one tablespoon apple cider vinegar and two cups water. Moisten a cotton ball, and swipe the mixture over a clean, dry face to tighten skin. Don’t rinse (the scent will dissipate quickly). Apple cider vinegar’s natural alpha-hydroxy acids and acetic acid will stimulate circulation, as well as minimize pores.

Interest Fact:  In the 18th Century when there was no sanitation as there is today, the smell of sewage and refuse in the towns and villages was almost unbearable, especailly to the more wealthy people who were used to more spacious surroundings.  To counteract the smell, when travelling to such places, they used sponges soaked in vinegar to disguise the smells.  These sponges were then carried in small silver boxes called VINAIGRETTES.
